Coming off 29-0 win over LSU, Crimson Tide poised to face another ranked opponent in Mississippi State

The University of Alabama football team remained the unanimous No. 1 selection in the AP Top 25 on Sunday, and is one vote away from making it a clear sweep with the coaches' poll as well.

With a 29-0 victory at LSU, Alabama controls its own fate regarding the College Football Playoff, while Clemson and Notre Dame are also in win-and-in scenarios.

With the Tigers losing, No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 Oklahoma each moved up a spot. Alabama and Georgia have already clinched spots in the SEC Championship Game.

Alabama has been ranked in the top five for 49 straight weeks, the second longest streak in AP poll history to Miami’s 55 weeks from Oct. 8, 2000-Oct. 26, 2003. There have been three other streaks of 48 straight top-five appearances:

Alabama, preseason 2011-Dec. 8, 2013.

Ohio State, preseason 1973-Sept. 20, 1976.

Oklahoma, Nov. 16, 1953-Nov. 11, 1957.

The Crimson Tide will host No. 18 Mississippi State on Saturday (2:30 p.m. CT, CBS).
