There’s been a lot of talk regarding this year’s University of Alabama football team about if it manages to run the table, finish undefeated and win the national championship. Would it be considered the best in Crimson Tide history?
That’s a tall order, especially for a program that counts the number of national championships on the side of its promotional helmets.
But in order to possibly answer that question eventually, some sort of pecking order needs to be established.
That’s where you come in.
Welcome to the Crimson Tide’s Tournament of Champions.
Over the next three weeks, Alabama’s top 16 national championship teams —sorry 1941,you’re out —will be paired against each other in bracket-style single-elimination tournament.
Seedings were done similar to a World Cup draw, only instead of by geographic regions were initially separated by coaches. So, for example, no two Paul W. “Bear” Bryant teams could meet in the first round.
At high noon (CT) of each weekday the latest pairing will be posted on the site.
The voting will be done on the BamaCentral twitter account (@BamaCentral), and conclude after 24 hours.
The winning team advances.
As for how you define “best,” we’ll leave that up to you. Just like with the College Football Playoff committee, best can be defined a number of different ways.
This thread will be pinned to the top, and results added daily. We invite any and all discussion in our new forum, “Talk of the Tide.”
May the best Crimson Tide team win.
