Everything from injuries to live stats from Bryant-Denny Stadium

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. It's time to kick off the home opener for the Crimson Tide. Game is on ESPN2.

2:38 p.m.: Arkansas State won the toss. Deferred. Alabama ball.

Arkansas State at Alabama, first quarter

2:42: Slant to Jerry Jeudy, touchdown. 58 yards. Well that was quick.

2:50 p.m.: Botched punt, Alabama has first down at the 31. After a near pick, Tua finds Ruggs over the middle, who goes for the touchdown. 13-0 after missing the extra point.

Total yards, 106-9. Alabama has executed seven offensive plays. 11:30 to go in first quarter.

3 p.m. I missed what happened to him, but freshman cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis is on crutches and in street clothes. He's sitting behind the bench so he can listen to the position meetings and has ice on his knees.

3:05 p.m.: Tua doesn't score. Crowd is stunned.

3:15 p.m.: Tua to DeVonta Smith, 41 yards down the right sideline for another touchdown. All three starting wide receivers have touchdowns already.

However, another missed extra point. Loud boos are heard. Alabama leads 19-0.

3:16 p.m.: Joseph Bulovas warming up on the sideline.

3:23 p.m.: Jalen Hurts in at quarterback. Gets some nice applause. First completion is for 20 yards off a bootleg.

First quarter stats:

Arkansas State at Alabama, second quarter

Alabama had 245 yards of total offense in the first quarter. Ouch.

-- Damien Harris keys the drive and has a nice fake on a 14-yard gain to get Alabama in the red zone. However, Hurts takes a hard hit and fumbles at the 1 with Arkansas State recovering.

-- Hurts to Irv Smith Jr., 10-yard TD. Bulovas makes the extra point. Crowd goes crazy. Alabama up 26-0. Touchdown was set up by a 30-yard gain by DeVonta Smith, in which he made a tackler miss and took off down the left sideline.

-- Arkansas State is beginning to look like it just doesn't want to be here any more. Student section, which was never full to begin with, is already emptying out, but so is the whole stadium. It is freaking hot out in that sun.

-- Although Alabama has had a pair of turnovers, the Crimson Tide only has one penalty for 5 yards. At least that part of Saban's message after last week sunk in, apparently.

-- Running back Najee Harris hurdled a defender and combined with a hand-to-the-face penalty on Arkansas State, Alabama has the ball at the 7. Hurts takes a hard hit but delivers a strike to Jeudy. Alabama leads 33-0.

-- Cornerback Saivion Smith with the pick-six. 40-0

-- With 3:53 to go until halftime, Isaiah Buggs goes down. The senior defense end eventually gets up and walks to the tent, but that didn't look good.

-- Arkansas State goes for it on fourth down at the Alabama 20 and Xavier McKinney nearly has a pick-six, but can't complete the catch. He was already off to the races. Tua Tagovailoa is back in the game just before halftime, similar to a week ago. The offense goes three-and-out.

-- Halftime, Alabama 40, Arkansas State 0. Buggs was in the tent for a long time, but walked to the locker room with his teammates. He's probably done for the day, but that's a good sign.

-- Quote note to pass along from Alabama sports information: Damien Harris 58 first half rushing yards gives the senior running back 2,307 yards for his career, moving him into 14th place on the Alabama career rushing list. Eddie Lacy is No. 13 at 2,402 yards.

Arkansas State at Alabama, third quarter

-- Update on Buggs, he's on the sideline for the start of the second half. Still in uniform, but I'd be surprised if he plays again today.

-- Arkansas State goes with a double pass to move the ball downfield and eventually scores a touchdown on a 23-yard slant pass to Kendri Edwards. Shutout is over. Alabama leads 40-7.

-- Red Wolves try an onside kick, but Keaton Anderson made the recovery. I think I'm going to start calling him Steve Tasker. Tua starts the second half.

-- Alabama scores on a 39-yard field goal by Joseph Bulovas. Alabama leads 43-7.

-- With Tua at quarterback, Alabama caps a long drive (15 plays, 89 yards, 7:01) with a nice 14-yard catch by Derek Kief. Alabama up 50-7.

-- Jalen Hurts back in just before the end of the third quarter.

Arkansas State at Alabama, fourth quarter

-- Paid attendance, 100,495. It's not a sellout.

-- Najee Harris runs in a 1-yard touchdown. Scoring drive: 9 plays, 75 yards, 3:34. You can hear the echoes of the band. Tide up 57-7.
