TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama basketball fans got a glimpse of the upcoming 2018-19 season when both teams held the fourth annual Tide Tipoff at Coleman Coliseum on Monday night.
The women took to the court first, with a 12-minute intrasquad scrimmage between the Crimson and White squads.
The side with junior guards Jordan Lewis and transfer Cierra Johnson won going away. The former Shelton State product Johnson was named the national junior college player of the year last season.
“We had a great crowd tonight for a Monday night,” women’s coach Kristy Curry said. “I’m really excited to see so many folks in the stands. There was a lot of excitement. Tonight, was great for our team and for the fact that we got to put our uniforms on and lace our shoes up to play in a real game-like environment.
"We have a big freshmen class, which is always a positive. I saw a little bit of jitters and nerves, but I absolutely love the energy of this team. I love our veterans and I love our newcomers. We just have a great mix of the old and the new that brings an awful lot of energy. This is the most energetic team I have had at Alabama and I’m excited about their potential.”
The Crimson Tide has an exhibition with Faulkner University scheduled for 3 p.m, with a second preseason game Nov. 1 against Mississippi College (7 p.m.) Alabama will open its regular season against Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 7 (also at 7 p.m.). All three games will be played at Coleman Coliseum.
When asked what he's liked about her team so far during practices, Curry said their "energy."
