TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — It turns out that early enrollee Antonio Alfano’s claim to have gained 17 pounds since arriving at the University of Alabama in January may not mean that’s how much weight he’s gained overall.
According to the Crimson Tide’s updated roster, which includes everything from measurables to jersey numbers for the 15 early enrollees, he’s up to 290 pounds.
That’s just five more than his listed signing-day weight of 285.
Regardless, Alabama is trying to put some weight on the player that 247Sports rated as the best prospect in the nation.
"Well, we recruited him as a defensive end,” Nick Saban said on National Signing Day.
It came a few hours after Alfano said during Alabama’s signing-day show: “I’ve been here for like a month, and I’ve already gained 17 pounds since I’ve been here, just from working out and eating and that stuff.”
Instead, the biggest weight change has been with defensive lineman Justin Ebiogbe, who has gone from 263 pounds to 284.
Regardless, Alfano will wear No. 56 during the spring, with Ebiogbe in No. 92 — what Quinnen Williams wore.
