Josh Green's commitment renews 5-star feeling for Arizona basketball

5-star wing joins pal Nico Mannion in UA's 2019 class

Arizona Wildcats coach Sean Miller is recruiting like it's 2012.

Or 2013. Or 2014. Or ... well, you get the idea.

As long as he's not recruiting like it's the fall of 2017.

A year after Arizona assistant coach Book Richardson was arrested in part of an FBI investigation into corruption and illegal payoffs in college basketball -- and several months after UA had no recruits in its 2018 class -- Miller has landed his second five-star prospect for 2019.

Josh Green, who is playing for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., committed to Arizona on Thursday morning. The 6-foot-6 wing is rated the 10th-best prospect in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite.

He joins his summer-ball teammate and fellow five-star recruit, point guard Nico Mannion from Pinnacle High in Phoenix, in Arizona's class. Mannion is No. 13 in the 247Sports Composite. The Wildcats also have a commitment from 7-footer Christian Koloko, a three-star recruit who is more of a developmental recruit.

Green is originally from Australia and made a stop in Phoenix, playing for Hillcrest Prep, where he was a teammate of Deandre Ayton for a season, so he's been an Arizona target for years.

Miller has signed 14 five-star recruits, as rated by the 247Sports Composite, during his time at Arizona. Green and Mannion, assuming they sign and show up, moves that number to 16. Given their experience together, that's a heck of a potential backcourt for Arizona in 2019-20, with guard Brandon Williams being a sophomore ... and, well, we don't need to get too far ahead of ourselves.

Green's biggest upside is his athleticism, with the body type to become an excellent defender. Green is listed as the nation's No. 1 shooting guard by Rivals.com, but also would look great at small forward in what could be an ultra-athletic perimeter attack for Arizona in 2019-20. All this Arizona recruiting is happening amid the backdrop of the first college basketball trial, happening in New York and focusing on former adidas employees as well as Christian Dawkins, a former runner for a sports agent.

Meanwhile, Miller said this week he figures to build a class of five or six recruits.
