Arizona QB commit Grant Gunnell set for game on national TV

The 6-foot-6 senior is closing in on major Texas HS records

DVR alert: Arizona quarterback commit Grant Gunnell has a game Friday night on ESPNU.

His Houston St. Pius X team will be home for a game against Dallas Bishop Dunne, starting at 6 p.m. PT. Bishop Dunne features a safety, Brian Williams, who is 46th nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings and has committed to Texas A&M.

He had two interception returns for touchdowns last week, so he'll be a good test for Gunnell, who rated the 14th-best pro-style quarterback and No. 392 nationally in the 247Sports Composite.

In leading the Panthers to a 4-1 record, Gunnell has completed 142 of 207 passes for 2,212 yards, with 25 touchdowns and two interceptions, according to MaxPreps.com.

The 6-foot-6 quarterback enters Friday night's game with 13,568 career passing yards and 167 touchdown passes. He is closing in on Texas state high school records in both categories -- 14,408 passing yards (Hunter Lile) and 184 TD throws (Travis Quintanilla).

Gunnell would love to get St. Pius X receiver Jalen Curry to Tucson as well. The four-star prospect has already visited Penn State, Tennessee and Auburn, according to 247Sports.

Should be a fun game to watch Friday night. St. Pius X is averaging 51.2 points per game.
