Arizona Wildcats football: The All-Tucson team

The best of the locals in the Pac-10/12 era

The Arizona Wildcats are ready to start a product of a Tucson high school at quarterback -- Rhett Rodriguez -- for the first time since 1991.

In that year, Rincon alum Billy Prickett started twice because of injuries, getting the call at UCLA and vs. No. 2-ranked Miami.

Rodriguez, from Catalina Foothills High School, is likely to be backed up by another local recruit, Jamarye Joiner from Cienega.

Elsewhere in the starting lineup, safety Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles has been a starter for three seasons. Earlier this decade, Arizona benefitted from the local talents of running back Ka'Deem Carey, linebacker Jake Fischer and safety Jared Tevis, among others.

All four of those guys are on our Arizona Wildcats' All-Tucson team from the Pac-10/12 years.

The defensive line prospects are a bit thin, so we went with only two linemen and five linebackers, of which they are many good candidates. And we expanded the geographic area slightly to include the great Warner Smith from San Manuel.

Here is the All-Tucson team, led by seven players from Sahuaro High School, thanks in part to its production of special teams standouts.
