It’s a popular refrain these days from new coaches on the job. Often they refer to “changing the culture” of the program they have inherited.
While Mark Fox knows there are many aspects of the Cal basketball program that need repair, he explains he has avoided using the catch-phrase because he thinks it’s a bit disrespectful.
But Fox knows exactly what he wants his Cal team to represent:
“What I want our program to be is when people come to watch us play they say, `These kids play super-hard for the name that’s on the front of their shirt. They’re not as concerned with the name on the back.’ “
