An enthusiastic welcome went out via Twitter from one new Cal athlete to another headed to Berkeley.
How could it not happen?
Golden Bears linebacker Kuony Deng arrived on campus in December, participated in spring ball and is expected to compete for a starting job next fall.
Last week, the Cal basketball team got a commitment from Kuany Kuany, a 6-foot-10 forward from Prolific Prep in Napa.
Deng, who played last season at Independence Community College in Kansas last season, was born in Virginia but his family is originally from South Sudan.
Kuany was born in South Sudan before his journey to the U.S. included stops in Kenya and Australia.
Now both will be in Berkeley, where it seems Kuony and Kuany are destined to become fast friends.
