Cal Football Video: The Wit & Wisdom of Evan Weaver, Part 3 — A Takers Wannabe

After collecting two picks last season, Weaver ponders what it will take to be included by the secondary

Evan Weaver has a problem. He’s a linebacker and he wants to feel included by Cal’s defensive backs.

He wants membership in their unofficial club — The Takers.

The secondary gave itself that nickname last season when DBs accounted for 17 of the Bears’ 21 pass interceptions.Safety Jaylinn Hawkins, shown in the cover photo, had a team-best six interceptions. Fellow safety Ashtyn Davis had four picks and nickel back Traveon Beck snared three.

Because he had two picks, including one he returned for the decisive touchdown in Cal’s upset of eventual Pac-12 champion Washington, Weaver feels a kinship to the defensive backs.

But, as he jokingly complains in the video above, Weaver has yet to receive a membership invite from The Takers.

Lindy's magazine ranks Weaver among the nation's top linebackers.
