After Cal eliminated Arizona 61-16 in Saturday's national quarterfinal game at Cal, Bears coach Jack Clark talked about the preparation for next Saturday's semifinal game against Saint Mary's in Moraga.
He spoke before Saint Mary's earned its semifinal berth with a 71-12 victory over BYU later Saturday, but you could tell Clark expected the foe to be the Gaels.
Clark suggests Cal will need to play better next Saturday than it did against Arizona, despite the lopsided win.
Cal beat Saint Mary's 29-19 on March 30 at Cal, but the Bears did not take the lead until just 10 minutes remained in the game. And Saturday's game will be on the Gaels' home turf. Saint Mary's was ranked No. 1 by DIArugby when that game was played, but now Cal is No. 1 with the Gaels at No. 3.
The winner of the Cal-Saint Mary's game will advance to the national finals to be played May 4 in Santa Clara. The opponent will be either Lindenwood or defending national champion Life.
