Rather than delve into "what ifs", best for Michigan fans to let reality play out first. There's no point in getting worked up over what might happen before addressing what will happen. Right now, there are five teams that control their own destiny for the College Football Playoff:
Any of those five teams wins out, they will be in the College Football Playoff -- period. End of sentence. A 1-loss power five conference champion has never been left out, and the resumes of the 4 potential conference champions within that quintet are so strong, as are their brands, there's no way they're being passed over if they win out.
And yes, that includes Michigan.
So the next couple of weeks, in search of talking points and click bait with the playoff picture pretty certain, you're going to see several in the sports media try and provoke Michigan's massive fan & alumni base with concerns they could go 12-1 and be left out if Alabama were to lose the SEC championship to Georgia. As the great prophet from Detroit, Axel Foley, once said, "Don't fall for the banana in the tailpipe."
Enjoy the season, and just hope the Wolverines keep winning. Don't let all the SEC media shills, who told us all offseason Harbaugh sucked but somehow was still wanted by every NFL team, and we were gonna lose 4-5 games, suddenly ruin your holiday season. Turn off the noise, and wear your maize-and-blue with pride.
With that out of the way, here's where things stand in all the power-5 conferences:
Once more, until the conference picture plays itself out, there's no point in getting all worked up about scenarios that may never happen (and are unlikely to anyway).
