Take Draymond Off the Bench in an Attempt to Stop the Slow Starts…

I certainly don’t claim to know more about basketball than Tom Izzo, but I also think that it doesn’t take a donkey braying at midnight in an old tin barn to realize the Spartans have been hampered by poor starts all season.

Rather than fight slow starts, perhaps Izzo will give Draymond a chance at a fast start. Photo courtesy of Mark Boomgaard.

With those slow starts the Spartans have found themselves in a hole nearly every game. They have been able to overcome those slow starts with a full compliment of players and against lesser teams. They can’t anymore as the season winds down and the tournaments come peaking over the horizon.

With that, I think the time has come for Coach Izzo to take a second look at bringing Draymond Green off the bench. Green’s fire and intensity have been a staple for the season and with the slow starts, perhaps he can help stop the bleeding. We know this, it can’t get worse.

Now I am in no way claiming to be the first to think this way, others around Izzo are also, but I do think he has to look at it as a real possibility. Green’s presence on the court is a calming influence on this team and he is, without a doubt, the leader of this team.

With slow starts hampering this team, perhaps the man called to fix the damage should get the opportunity of avoiding it all together. We know what they do with him on the bench, now is the time to see what happens with him off of it.
