Spartan basketball captain and sophomore point guard LouRawls Tum Tum Nairn has been out for the last five games with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. Izzo said after their win against Rutgers on Sunday night that he may know if Nairn would return today for the Spartans rivalry game on Saturday with Michigan.

So I asked him today about the status or Tum Tum. He said, “He shot yesterday on our off day, I have not talked to the doctors to day and I do not expect him to practice today at all. I think he will go through these two or three days here but at least he shot without a lot of pain. That was encouraging. I wish I could tell you could tell you more, I would tell you more if I could tell you more, but as I said earlier, I thought doubtful at best for Saturday. But at the same time, unlike a sprained ankle or something, if it comes around, he could play. So I guess I’ve got to push today off to another day or two, and by Thursday I guess we’ll know for sure.”

We should know more as the week advances, but I expect Nairn’s participation to be a game time decision. The Spartans and the Wolverines because of the Big Ten’s terrible scheduling (no protecting of rivalry games) only play once in the regular season this year.

That game tips off from the Crisler Center at 2PM on Saturday and it can be seen on CBS.
