19 MI OL Maverick Hansen “Michigan State has been my dream school”

Farmington Hills (MI) Harrison 2019 offensive lineman Maverick Hansen has long considered himself to be a Michigan State fan, and now that the #5 Spartanshave expressed interest in the 6-foot-5, 264 pound lineman, he is obviously excited.

The dictionary defines a Maverick as “An unorthodox or independent-minded person.” Clearly, Hansen’s parents knew what they were naming their son. A total gentleman off the field, Hansen dominates the testosterone filled game of football with a violent side that would make Dick Butkus proud. An old school football player that loves the physicality and brutality of the game, this young man’s future is very bright attacking opponents on the college gridiron.

Spartan Nation recently spoke with Hansen the interest he’s received from the Spartans and Hansen said that he never imagined being able to play at the Division 1 level and to be able to hear from a school he’s dreamt of playing for since he was a child.

“Michigan State has been my dream school since I was little,” he said. “I never thought I would have an opportunity or a chance to even play at this level, so Michigan State being interested in me is like a dream come true.”

So far in the recruiting process, Hansen holds an offer from Morgan State and has also received interest from several other schools, including Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Toledo.

Hansen recently took a visit to East Lansing and told Spartan Nation that he came away impressed with what the campus has to offer and also enjoyed spending time with the coaches and players.

“It was awesome, it’s a beautiful campus,” he said. “I got to hang out with some coaches, I got to meet some football players - everyone is so friendly, it’s like a family there. I really enjoyed it, it was worth the drive.”

When it comes to Michigan State, Hansen’s main recruiter has been quarterbacks coach Brad Salem, who has told Hansen that the Spartans like his hustle when it comes to what he does on the field.

While he hasn’t received an offer from Michigan State as of yet, Hansen, who plans on majoring in business or entrepreneurship, admitted that an offer from the Spartans would obviously be a welcome one.

“I don’t know what I’d do, I would just be so happy,” he said. “I’ve been dreaming about it and thinking about it, I just can’t stop thinking about it, it’s been my main dream my whole life.”

Hansen also told Spartan Nation that he intends on camping at Michigan State this summer.

Although he has a little less than a year before he needs to make a college decision, Hansen said that he isn’t in any rush to make his commitment, but noted that a potential offer from Michigan State could give him reason to make an early commitment.

“I’m not trying to rush or anything, but if it were to happen, Michigan State has been my dream school since I was little,” he said. “So I would commit way before that date. I’d love to commit.”
