19 NC DE Traveon Freshwater Talks Michigan State

Since picking up an offer from #5 Michigan State back in May of 2017, Elizabeth City (NC) Northeastern2019 defensive end Traveon Freshwater has continued to be one of the most coveted defensive linemen in the country and has continued to see high-level Division 1 offer pour in in recent months.

Freshwater recently spoke with Spartan Nation to give an update on his recruitment and where the Spartans stand with him and the 4-star recruit said he is very interested and hopes to take a visit to East Lansing in the near future.

“I’m interested in them a lot,” he said. “I’m working hard to get down there, I’ve got a lot of love for Michigan State.”

Freshwater currently holds offers from 11 schools as he prepares for his senior season at the high school level, including offers from North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, Duke, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Wake Forest.

As far as Michigan State is concerned, Freshwater said that he hears from them and they let him know they are still very interested in him.

“They send me stuff on Twitter,” he said. “Just showing that they still have interest in me.” The Spartans are turning up the heat on the defensive end star.

While Freshwater has plenty of time before he needs to make a college decision, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound standout, who is capable of playing on offense and defense said that what a school and program does for their players off the field will play a big role in making his commitment.

“Off the field, how they treat their players, how much they care about their kids graduating - just basically how they take care of them after football is over,” he said. “Do they have the same love for them after the football season is over?”

Freshwater also told Spartan Nation that he is interested in majoring in Sports Management when he gets to college.

And while Freshwater holds offers from several top programs and will likely have several more offers coming his way soon, the 4-star recruit told Spartan Nation that he is very interested in the Spartans and wants to take a visit to get a better feel for what Michigan State has to offer.

“I’m interested, I want to get up there and get up there soon and hopefully they can be one of my top schools,” he said. “I want to get up there bad.”
