19 OH LB Isaiah Gibson Talks Michigan State
Even though Springfield (OH) 2019 3-star defensive lineman Isaiah Gibson already holds 18 offers, the 6-foot-4, 290-pound standout may be on the verge of seeing his recruitment go to a whole new level as he’s hearing from top programs from across the country as he prepares for his senior season at the high school level.
Spartan Nation caught up with Gibson, who said he’s hearing from schools in every single Power-Five conference, including every team in the Big Ten.
“Everybody in the country,” he said. “I’ve heard from the whole Big Ten at least once, I’m hearing from everybody in the SEC, from Alabama over to Ole Miss and I’ve talked to LSU a little bit - I didn’t talk to them like that, but they invited me to campus. So the SEC, the ACC, the Big 12, the Big Ten, everything really. The West Coast, all the way over at UCLA and Stanford, I’ve heard from everyone.”
Gibson’s offer list includes Iowa State, Kentucky, Minnesota, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville, Maryland, Purdue and Rutgers along with several others.
Among the schools showing serious interest in Gibson is #5 Michigan State, who the standout lineman said he has long had a high opinion of.
“Michigan State was once my dream school and an offer from there would mean a lot to me,” he said. “My options are still open, but with Michigan State, you never know.”
Gibson has been on campus at Michigan State in the past and said that he left East Lansing impressed with the football facilities as well as the atmosphere on campus on Saturdays.
“It’s always nice up there,” he said. “The facilities are great, everything up there is nice, the weight room is nice, the field is amazing. The atmosphere, the gameday experience, just everything is nice up there.”
Gibson said that he expects to be back in East Lansing for a visit “soon” and also told Spartan Nation that he believes he will camp at Michigan State this summer.
Although he plays offensive line at the high school level, Gibson admitted that he would like to play defensive line in college and is hearing from several schools that see him as a defensive lineman.
With all of the attention that he has received from some of the top Division 1 programs in the country, Gibson said that he and his teammate Moses Douglass, who recently committed to Kentucky, maintain the mentality of taking care of their business, rather than getting caught up in their recruitment and offers.
“You let that go to your head and you think you’re better than everybody and that’s not the case,” he said, “I had a teammate, Moses, with 21 offers, he committed yesterday and we always talked about it - offers don’t mean anything. We still have to do what we have to do regardless.”
