The recruiting process has been a busy, and surely a stressful one for Mansfield (OH) 2020 3-star cornerback Angelo Grose, but all should be calming down following his commitment to Michigan State a couple of weeks ago.
Grose originally committed to Cincinnati back on May 23rd, but decommitted from the Bearcats on June 10th, shortly after receiving an offer from the Spartans and during a visit to East Lansing last week, Grose committed to the Spartans.
Spartan Nation spoke with Grose about his decision and his visit to Michigan State and Grose said that he was looking for a welcoming, family environment during his time on campus and after bonding with the staff and members of the team, he felt right at home.
“It definitely felt like family there,” he said. “(Kalon) Gervin was cool and all of the other players just took me in, like I had already been there. It was nice.”
Grose also added that the family atmosphere was a key factor for his father during the trip and said that he also came away impressed with the environment as well.
“The family atmosphere, that was his biggest thing,” he said. “Going somewhere where you’re going to be wanted, where they’re going to take care of you, make sure you’re going to get your degree. That’s what really took him over the top.”
Along with his offers from the Spartans and Bearcats, Grose received offers from Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami (OH), Ohio, Toledo and Youngstown State.
When Grose made the decision to commit to the Spartans, he was able to do so in person with head coach Mark Dantonio during a conversation on his visit.
“I walked into the office and I was super excited to say it,” he said. “Then we just started talking, but I was just anxious to say it and I finally said it. I was just excited.”
“He was just happy,” Grose said of Dantonio after hearing his news. “He was excited for me and my family and the program.”
Now that Grose is a Spartan, he said that he intends on doing some recruiting for Michigan State, starting with a close friend of his, Westerville (OH) Central 3-star safety Ricky Hyatt, who currently holds a number of offers, including one from Ohio State.
“Ricky’s a safety,” he said. “He’s got great feet, great hips, he runs track. He’s fast, he’s big, strong, he’ll definitely be a great player.”
In a previous interview with Spartan Nation, Grose said that one reason why he was strongly considering Michigan State was his desire to play in the Big Ten, and now that it’s a reality, Grose still can’t quite believe it.
“It means a lot,” he said. “It’s unbelievable, I don’t even have words for it. I’m still taking it all in.”
