20 OH LB Jaheim Thomas Talks Michigan State
Cincinnati (OH) Princeton 2020 linebacker Jaheim Thomas has been one of the fastest rising recruits in the country since the end of the 2017 high school season as he now holds five offers and has received interest from #5 Michigan State as well as several other top Division 1 programs.
Spartan Nation spoke with Thomas about the recruiting process and the Spartans and the 6-foot-4, 206-pound standout said that after playing on the defensive line his entire life, he made the move to linebacker before his sophomore year at the high school level and quickly emerged as a top recruit at the position.
“I’ve been playing defensive end my whole life,” he said. “But this year was my first year playing linebacker and I enjoyed it. I didn’t start off starting, I had to move me into the rotation and once I moved into the rotation, I ended up starting.”
Thomas currently holds offers from Kentucky, Cincinnati, Rutgers, Bowling Green and Toledo and has also received interest from Ohio State and Penn State as well. But don't be deceived, this young man's recruitment is blowing up. A terrific young person off the field, he is a stone cold killer on it. His instincts are sharp and he delivers punishing hits with a violent attacking force.
With his newfound interest from the Spartans, Thomas said that he intends to come up to Michigan State for a visit in the near future and is looking forward to taking in a spring practice and getting a better feel for the Spartan football program.
“I’m most definitely coming up there in the spring,” he said. “Me and my coaches have already talked it out and we’re definitely coming up to a camp in the spring, we’ll watch spring practice and spring ball.”
Along with taking a visit this spring, Thomas also told Spartan Nation that he plans to camp at Michigan State this summer.
While he is emerging as a top linebacker in the Midwest, Thomas said that he knows he still has work to do to become a more well-rounded player before he reaches the college level.
“I can get to the ball fast, once the ball is hiked, I move pretty fast,” he said. “I’m relentless, I hit pretty hard, but there are a few things that I need to work on.”
“I have to work hard on staying low,” Thomas added. “Using my hands better and my tackling, I have to work on that a little bit more.
While he doesn’t hold an offer from the Spartans as of yet, Thomas, who is fresh off of a visit to Ohio State, said that an offer from Michigan State would be a welcome one for a number of reasons, including the fact that it would be another sign that his hard work is continuing to pay off.
“It would mean a lot because I’ve put a lot of hard work in,” he said. “That would be one of the ways to see that my work is paying off.”
