Strengths: Mark Dell is the most talented player on the Spartan roster. His strengths are numerous and his talent is immense. He can make superstar catches and run great routes. He is the single most talented player on the Spartan roster when it comes to physical God-given talent. Let’s take a look at the UM game for an example.

In the fourth quarter with 3:59 on the clock, the Spartans had a first and ten. On a poor pass that was thrown behind him, he hade a sensational catch. It clearly put the talent he has on display.

Weakness: Dell has no physical weaknesses. His weakness comes with effort in my opinion. For example against Purdue in the first quarter the Spartans had a third and seven at their own 33. On a perfect pass that would have been a first down it went right through his hands. There was no pressure and the ball was perfect. Dell just had a mental lapse and dropped the pass.

Against Notre Dame in the first quarter on a second and five he was wide open at the 50 for a first down. The ball hit his pads and he dropped the ball. First, the ball should never hit the WR pads. Technique says you catch with your hands and bring it to your body, another mental let down.

Final Analysis: After I wrote last year’s profile of Dell I got asked about why I didn’t like Dell and that is simply not true. I don’t know Dell, but I also say he has the single most talent on this team and in my opinion hasn’t lived up to it.

He is as good as he wants to be. He is a second string player now and with his talent that is not acceptable. He is a senior so you hope the light comes on.

I know that many in the program get frustrated that he hasn’t lived up to his talent, but they haven’t given up on him. Maybe after off field issues last year, he will respond and have a big year. I would love to write and talk about Dell having a great senior season. Every time I see him make a great play I ask what if. I am rooting for him to have a great season and hope he does.
