2012 Rewind Look At The Michigan State 2009 Football Recruiting Class…

2012 rewind of the 2009 football recruiting class…

1.             Chris Norman OLB 6’2” 210# Detroit, MI Original class ranking #2 Norman comes in again in 2012 as the starting OLB, but he will get pushed for that spot in the spring.

2.             Edwin “ROCK” Baker RB 5’10” 200# Oak Park, MI Original class ranking #3 Had a mediocre 2011 season that was marked by fumbling issues. He left after the 2011 season to enter the NFL draft.

3.             Denicos Allen OLB 5’11” 215# Hamilton, OH Original class ranking #8 Denicos emerged as one of the stars of the 2011 defense and should be a pre season all Big Ten selection when those come out in the fall. A fantastic football player, he is star.

4.             Andrew Maxwell QB 6’3” 196# Midland, MI Original class ranking #1 Maxwell is the real deal. Accurate and smart, he has a cannon of an arm and has all of the tools. Has wowed in practice and my ONLY concern with him is that he should have got more meaningful reps during the season. He is the starter heading into the spring and the single biggest failure of the 2011 season was the fact he got so few reps.

5.             Dan France 6’6” 275# DE North Royalton, OH Original class ranking #14 France has been moved all over in an attempt to get him on the field. He found his spot as the starting LT in 2011. He will have competition to keep the job in 2012, but has emerged already as one of the stars of his class.

6.             Larry Caper RB 5’11” 215# Battle Creek, MI Original class ranking #6 Larry Caper didn’t get a lot of meaningful reps in 2011. With the emergence of LeVeon Bell and the loss of Baker he will enter 2012 as the second RB, but NEVER count out this hard working and super young man.

7.             Blake Treadwell DT 6’3” 270# East Lansing, MI Original class ranking #5 Tready was the starting C when the 2011 season kicked off, but lost that job with a season ending injury. Should compete for starting RG in 2012

8.             Dion Sims TE 6’5” 224# Orchard Lake, MI Original class ranking #7 Dion returned in 2011, but was hampered by injury. He has all the tools to be special and will be the #1 TE in 2012.

9.             Denzel Drone 6’2” 230# DE Plant City, FL Original class ranking #15 Drone is a hard worker, and a very good player. Unfortunately for him he has a lot of talent ahead of him on the depth chart, but is a very good player.

10.         Bennie Fowler WR 6’2” 180# Detroit, MI Original class ranking #18 Fowler has been hampered with a foot injury. If he returns where he was he becomes the playmaker on this team and starts. A super talent that only an injury could hold back.

11.         Kevin Muma K 6’ 170# Troy, MI Original class ranking #12 A super kid, who has struggled to get the ball inside the five, let alone the endzone. With Muma we KNOW he can do it, now he has to be consistent and do it. I think he will, but I do expect him to be pushed for his starting spot all spring and fall.

12.         Micajah Reynolds OG 6’5” #313 Lansing, MI Original class ranking #19 Reynolds is back on the DL and is getting better everyday. He has been tossed back and forth from DL to OL, but not because he lacks talent. In fact it is the opposite. Has battled some health issues, but should stay with the DL now. Well liked by the coaches, Reynolds should see the field in a meaningful way in 2012

13.         Jairus Jones 6’2” 210# S Tampa, FL Original class ranking #13 Hampered by injury Jones will be back in 2012 and if he comes back where he left, expect him to be in the mix for the MSU two deep for sure and possibly a starters role in 2012.

14.         Jeremy Gainer OLB 6’1” 213# Detroit, MI Original class ranking #9 Gainer is another example of a very good talent who is struggling to find the field for meaningful reps with so much talent on the roster. In the past at MSU when young men couldn’t see the field it was because they lacked talent. Now that has nothing to do with it.

15.         Henry Conway OT 6’6” 305# Shaker Heights, OH Original class ranking #11 Conway was on the fast track to being a starting OT at MSU until he suffered a neck injury. Cleared to return, 2011 was a chance to get his feet under him again, but I fully expect him to compete for a starting spot and push the returning starting OT’s from 2011.

16.         Nate Klatt CENTER 6’4” 292# Canal Fulton, OH Original class ranking #10 Klatt has had injuries that have hampered him, but is a solid back up on the OL and is another very good player looking for a shot.

17.         Corey Freeman DE 6’3” 235# Cleveland Heights, OH. Original class ranking #21 Freeman is primarily a pass rush DE, but will struggle to get meaningful reps in 2012.

18.         Dana Dixon 6’2” 176# S Detroit, MI Original class ranking #16 Dixon is a terrific young man, but has struggled to find a spot. With so much DB talent, finding meaningful reps outside of special teams may be a difficult task for the young man.

19.         TyQuan Hammock LB 6’1” 220# Fort Wayne, IN Original class ranking #17 Hammock is a good football player, that struggled with weight that sent him to FB and then back to LB when it got under control. With all the talent MSU has accumulated at LB, again we find another very good talent that outside of special teams that will struggle to see the field for meaningful reps at his position.

20.         Derek Hoebing TE 6’6” 245# Original class ranking #20 Vermilion, OH Hoebing will have a shot in 2012 with the loss of two very good TEs. He has yet to emerge, but 2012 is his chance.

Special Circumstance:

David Barrent OT 6’8” 293# West Des Moines, IA Still at MSU retired with injury

No Longer with the team:

Patrick White WR 5’11” 170# Pickerington, OH

Donald Spencer WR 6’4” 201# Ypsilanti, MI
