Answering your #18/21 Michigan State FootballQuestions and Emails…
Hey, Hondo how is recruiting for 2019 going for MSU? Ashleigh West
Michigan State has 16 players committed to its 2019 class and they are doing well. Going to be a superclass.
Hey Hondo, Hope all is well with you. Just wondering what’s going on with Weston bridges. He got a lot of hype from his teammates this fall and so far has only 2 or 3 carries all year. Seems odd given the fact that LJ was hurt and none of the other backs are lighting it up. Why hasn't he been given an opportunity
Thanks, Stephen Novak
He is doing great. MSU has a ton of depth and there is a lot of battling.
Hondo you are pretty even-tempered. Did anything worry you more than the red zone failures? D. Keeley
Yes.They were 2 of 13 on third down.Absolutely atrocious.
Hondo how worried should we be about penalties? Jed Morris
A lot. They had eight penalties for 72 yards. That is terrible. It keeps teams around.
Hondo I am not sure how many turnovers the Spartans had, but man it was maddening. Keith Meyer
Brian Lewerke had five. One was called back by penalty, so they had four that lead to 18 points for the Hoosiers. It was not good. They kept IU in the game more than they fought.
Hondo you have been open that you thought Jon Reschke would start by game four. Still feel that way? Peter White
No. Those ahead of him have played well, even better than the staff has hoped. Especially last week.
Hondo do you think LJ Scott could play Saturday? Laura Cook
Could he? Yes, but they learned a lot from Cole Chewins. They do not need him vs. CMU and there are some that look at rushing Cole back and not having him vs. IU and are asking why rush him back.
Hondo I saw another media place project MSU vs Kentucky in the Outback Bowl. Is that a good Bowl for MSU and would that be a good opponent? Brent Moore
UK is a team on the rise and Outback is a January 1 bowl. With that said, I think MSU has a higher goal and that isn’t dead yet. But it is a viable projection in my opinion.
Hondo I watched your video after the Indiana game and when Dantonio said, “We came to play.” I was stunned. Why haven’t they the first two games? Ari M.
I can see your frustration, but I think you are reading too much into that.
Hondo It seems we have two basic running plays, either between the tackles or the jet “creep”. I call it that because it seems to take so long to develop. Watch other teams run a similar play and they either cut upfield sooner or run the play faster. We go parallel to the line of scrimmage such a long time that we usually give defenses time to spread and stop us. Agreed? Tim in San Diego
Agree? They do run those, but they have more.
Hondo I am tired of Dantonio’s excuses and pretending this team can run the ball. Larry Dunham
He said, “We need to be able to run the ball on the inside, but we need to be able to get out on the edge, too.” I think we can agree it is struggling, but not fair to say he is making excuses.
Hi Hondo. Congratulations on stating that the backup quarterback would not be the punter. I had a friend who drove down to the MSU/IU football game and they were watching the warm-ups of the punters and they said who is that and who is that. I had told my friend about your comment that the backup quarterback wouldn't be the punter and he said when he was watching the warm-up he remembered our conversation. Well done! Guy Eckinger
Thank you Guy.
