While his future is seemingly set to be on the baseball diamond, that hasn’t stopped Division 1 football programs from offering Toledo (OH) Central Catholic2019 3-star wide receiver Jase Bowen, who is committed to play baseball at Notre Dame.

One of the latest schools expected to soon offer to the 6-foot-1, 178-pound receiver is Michigan State and Spartan Nation spoke with Bowen, who said he’s surprised that he’s continued hearing from football programs and was surprised to still hear from the #5 Michigan State Spartans.

“I am (shocked), but I love it though,” he said. “All of the hard work is paying off and it’s a good feeling.”

On the football field, Bowen holds offers from Cincinnati, Minnesota, Kentucky, Iowa State, Yale and a handful of other programs.

The first offer Bowen ever received was an offer from Coach Jake Boss and Michigan State to play baseball and said that he thinks highly of the Spartans’ baseball coaching staff and also added that he remains in contact with Spartans’ defensive coordinator Mike Tressel.

“I was just offered for baseball from Michigan State last December,” he said. “So I’ve been in touch with the baseball coaches there, I absolutely love those guys. I’ve been in contact with coach Tressel - from the football team - and he’s been nothing but nice to me and he’s come in school a couple of times.”

Bowen also told Spartan Nation that he would be interested in a school that would give him the opportunity to play both baseball and football at the collegiate level. The multi-sport star also noted that Notre Dame’s baseball coaching staff has informed him that the Irish would be open to allowing him to play both sports if he were to receive that chance from the football program.

But when it comes to Michigan State, Bowen said that he sees a football program that has emerged as one of the best in the Big Ten and has heard plenty of positive things about the Spartans.

“It’s obviously a prestigious school, it has a great history,” he said. “Obviously, they’re a powerhouse in the Big Ten for the last three or four years from what I can think of. I’ve heard nothing but great things and it’s just prestigious.”

Mark Dantonio and Jake Boss are close and have worked with other prospects on playing both sports. Dantonio has no objections to a football player missing spring practice, “If he can help Coach Boss win and be a contributor.”
