Surgery For Barbaro Complete, Success

Surgery For Barbaro Complete, Success

Going into the Preakness this past Saturday Barbaro was unbeaten. Unfortunately this streak was about to end, as right out of the gate things got bad for the horse. After only running a few hundred yards, Barbaro collapsed with a break in his rear leg bones. Emergency surgery was performed on Sunday in attempt to salvage the horse’s life. The chances of survival are still 50-50. But it is good to report that as Doctor Dean Richardson finished up, it is said, “Barbaro practically jogged back to his stall for food.” Richardson continued to say, “Barbaro is extremely comfortable in the leg.” Hopefully Barbaro can remain in good condition and his leg will stabilize and allow him to live a healthy life.Â
