Expectations are sky high for Oregon point guard Sabrina Ionescu. One year after leading the Ducks to the Elite Eight and winning multiple conference and national awards, the all-American returns for her junior season in the green and yellow.
Ionescu has been named to watchlist for Nancy Lieberman Award, given annually to the nation’s best point guard. She won the award last year as a sophomore, averaging 19.7 points and 7.8 assist per game. Her 298 total assists last year were tops in Oregon and Pac-12 history, and fourth in the nation. She also finished the season with six triple-doubles, giving her 10 for her career, which is also an NCAA record.
Her list of accolades from last year include being named the Pac-12 Player of the Year and Pac-12 Tournament MVP.
Only four previous players have won the award twice while Connecticut’s Sue Bird is the only three-time winner, taking home the award from 2000-02.
The Ducks began the season on November 6 against Alaska-Fairbanks in Alaska.
