SB: Ducks blasted by Auburn on second day of Judi Garman Classic

Catcher Shaye Bowden threw out her eighth runner of the season — the Pac-12's top mark

One day after losing two games on the first day of the Judi Garman Classic, Oregon (11-7) had the golden opportunity to put those losses behind as it faced No. 22 Auburn (16-3) on Friday.

Instead, the Ducks continued to struggle offensively, totaling just three hits before falling to the Tigers 8-0 in five innings.

Auburn’s ace pitcher Makayla Martin did a good job of not just overpowering Oregon hitters but keeping the Ducks off balanced, and they were never able to adjust.

The Ducks looked like they might strike in the second inning when Cherish Burks doubled with one out, which was followed up by a single by Jasmine Sievers. But Martin calmly got the next two outs and that would be the last the Oregon would truly threaten Auburn.

Jordan Dail, who entered the tournament with a perfect 9-0 record, got her third loss in as many games this week. Despite striking out for in her 4.0 inning of works, Dail gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits and walked four.

She was replaced by walk-on Kailey Krueger, who threw the fifth inning and was tagged four three runs, walking four batters despite recording just one out.

One of the lone bright spots defensively was catcher Shaye Bowden, who threw out her eighth runner of the season when she caught an Auburn runner trying to steal in the second inning.
