After losing last night’s finale, the Ducks (9-3) came out on day two of the Mary Nutter Classic with a purpose, battering around Army (4-9) in their 11-0 win in five innings.
Jordan Dail improved to 7-0 with the complete-game shutout, striking out eight while giving up just five hits.
Cherish Burks was the star on offense with a 2-for-2 day at the plate, finishing with three RBI’s and two runs. Jasmine Sievers also went 2-for-2 with two runs scored while Bailey Cook and Allee Bunker added two RBI’s each.
It wasn’t so much as Oregon’s offense exploding in the first inning, leading to the 4-0 lead, as it was Army’s pitching staff losing control. The Ducks took advantage of seven walks in the inning for the early lead.
Burks notched her second RBI of the day when she knocked a 1-0 pitch out of the park, her first homerun of the season.
The offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs in the frame. Shaye Bowden got it started with a sacrifice fly before five consecutive reached base and plated the final five runs of the game.
Haley Cruse singled to score Jasmine Sievers before Burks’ third RBI of the day came on a single up the middle to score Cruse. Bunker’s double plated one more before Cook’s single brought home Bunker and Burks to complete the scoring.
In total, the Ducks' offense finished with eight hits and seven walks in the game, showing a combination of patience and explosion that's become the early staple of the season.
