Texas Tech heated up from beyond the arc in the second half and drilled Northern Colorado, 93-62, on Saturday afternoon at the United Supermarkets Arena.
Texas Tech (6-0) led 49-39 when Deshawn Corprew hit the first of a series of three 3-pointers in less than 2 minutes. Guard Matt Mooney followed Corprew with a trey and guard Jarrett Culver nailed one of his own that put the Red Raiders in front 60-42 with with 13:27 left.
Those three baskets fueled a quick 11-3 run and set Texas Tech cruising. Northern Colorado (3-0) never got back within 15 points.
Texas Tech made 10 of 16 from 3-point range.
Culver finished with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists as he once again led the Red Raiders. But the bench also sparked Texas Tech as the Red Raiders reserves outscored those of Northern Colorado, 51-3.
Freshman Kyler Edwards scored a career-high 19, Corprew added 13 and Brandone Francis finished with 11 points, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds.
Texas Tech led 43-30 at halftime and pulled away despite Norhtern Colorado winning the battle on the boards, 36-30, and going to the free throws for 17 more attempts than the Red Raiders.
The Bears hit 20 of 29 foul shots, while Texas Tech made 9 of 12.
The Red Raiders’ 93 points were their most of the season and came in a contest when they had 16 assists and just 6 turnovers.
