What a rebound for the Rankman, who went 3-1 last week and pushed back to .500 on his way to the even-money gambling Horror Hall of Fame. This week I’m running for “cover,” so to speak. My three games are Vanderbilt at Auburn, Alabama at LSU and Nebraska at Ohio State. Plus, the usual over-under bonus, which Rankman blew the doors off last week in the case of Florida State v. Clemson.[membership level="0"] The rest of this article is available to subscribers only - to become a subscriber click here.[/membership] [membership]
The game: Vanderbilt getting 26 at AUBURN.
The pick: Vanderbilt (Score: Auburn 35-10)
The comment: Auburn is one of the hottest teams in the nation and just hung a 56-3 defeat on Arkansas, but Vandy has already proved at Georgia this year it can win on the road in the SEC. And Vandy doesn’t even have to win, just hold Auburn to a three-plus touchdown loss. Vanderbilt is No. 26 nationally in scoring D, allowing only 21.5 points per game.
The game: Nebraska getting 17 at OHIO STATE
The pick: Nebraska
The comment: What am I missing here? Nebraska just lost a nail-biter at Wisconsin and is No. 10 in the first CFP ranking. Ohio State is 1-1 in its last two games, following a tough loss at Penn State with a narrow home win over Northwestern.
The game: Alabama giving 7 at LSU.
The pick: LSU, 24-21
The comment: Nick Saban said it best this week. He considers LSU an undefeated team because the Tigers haven’t lost since Ed Orgeron took over as head coach. Saban is only 7-4 all-time against LSU, 7-3 as Alabama’s coach.
Bonus: “Over” is always the safest bet in a game involving Pac 12 schools but I’m thinking 77 1\2 is too much for Washington at California. The Huskies should score plenty of points against Cal’s decimated defense but my guess is Cal won’t go crazy against a stout Washington unit.
Last week: 3-1
