Rankman's Picks: Week 2

Now we know why they call it gambling. Rankman went 1-2 in the Pick 3 portion last week but man was it close. We took UCLA and the 3 at Texas A&M and the game was tied at regulation. We took Clemson to cover the 7 and Clemson won by six, the difference being a missed extra point and Dabo Swinney's insane decision not to kick a late field goal to put his team up by 11. He would have spit up his dinner had Auburn connected on that last Hail Mary pass into the end zone.

Well, at least Florida State came through on Monday, and Rankman also won his bonus "over-under" pick on UCLA-TAMU. On to this week's picks--Kentucky at Florida, Virginia at Oregon and Georgia Southern at South Alabama. I'll also have a bonus over\under pick on Washington State at Boise State.[membership level="0"] The rest of this article is available to subscribers only - to become a subscriber click here.[/membership] [membership]

THE GAME: FLORIDA giving 17 vs. Kentucky

THE PICK: Kentucky (Score: Florida, 17-10)

THE COMMENT: It's hard for me to believe Florida can beat any SEC team by 17 points. The Gators only led UMass by three points last week, at home, in the fourth quarter. Florida only won by five, last year, at Kentucky. The Gators painful offensive history of late is they have to slog out wins, especially in The Swamp. Last year they beat Vanderbilt, 9-7, and FAU, 2014. Does that sound like a program you're ready to trust as 17-point home favorites?

THE GAME: OREGON giving 24 vs. Virginia

THE PICK: Oregon 49-24

THE COMMENT: Oregon "struggled" early against UC Davis last week before laying the lumber, 53-28. But Virginia really struggled, losing to the Spiders of Richmond. The Ducks are starting four red-shirt freshmen on the offensive line but first-year quarterback Dakota Prukop has already proven he's got the tools to keep Oregon's offense rolling.

THE GAME: Ga. Southern giving 13 1\2 at SOUTH ALABAMA

THE PICK: Ga. Southern, 37-21

THE COMMENT: Rankman's hunch in college is to always bet for, or against, emotion. South Alabama is coming off a huge, epic, historic win over Mississippi State and probably didn't stop partying until Wednesday. It would be only natural for the Jaquars to have a let-down after such a big win. The problem is Ga. Southern is one of the Sun Belt's best teams. Giving almost two touchdowns on the road is risky, but that's why these picks are for entertainment purposes only...right?

BONUS PICK: The over-under on Boise State vs. Washington State, 73 1\2, actually seems low. Boise State's offense looked prolific in its opening win at UL Lafayette. Both the Broncos and Cougars have prolific, experienced quarterbacks in Brett Rypien and Luke Falk. And one thing you know about Washington State is that they will keep passing no matter how far behind, or ahead.

Take the OVER.
