Rankman's picks: Week 2

The Games

UNLV getting 8 points at IDAHO

Hawaii getting 21 points at UCLA

Stanford getting 4 at USC

Nebraska at OREGON (69)

Houston at ARIZONA (70)

Stanford at USC (56)

Let me apologize, profusely and profoundly, to all of you for last week’s ignominious, 2-4 start. Especially the little gambler kids out there who look up to me. I feel like I let the team down. It's all on my, my shoulders. I know you expected more and I vow no one will handicap harder so long as there are dice to roll and Blackjack hands to double down on. This is my "Promise." I hope a plaque of its contents will be placed someday at a Las Vegas Sports Book. "To degenerate gamblers everywhere in Point Spread Nation, I'm sorry. I'm extremely sorry, we were hoping for an undefeated gambling season. That was my goal, something Rankman has never done here. I promise you one thing: A lot of good money will come out of this. You will never see any gambler in the entire country gamble as hard as I will the rest of the season." Moving on, let's focus on last week's finish, in which my “over” pick on UCLA and Texas A&M (55 1\5) cleared the bar by more than 30 points. This week’s grouping of games is an eclectic mix of games in the Western region of our contagious states. Or is that contiguous?

The Picks

UNLV at Idaho. Rebels vs. Vandals. School that lost to Howard vs. school playing its last year at FBS level. Look, there’s no hope for UNLV if the Rebels can’t rebound from last week’s fiasco and at least cover at the Kibbie Dome. Idaho won last year’s game by only three, in OT, at Vegas.

Pick: UNLV

Score: Idaho 37-30

Hawaii at UCLA. A classic letdown game for the Bruins after last weekend’s miracle comeback win over Texas A&M. UCLA will win but also struggle to cover against a better-than-average Hawaii team.

Pick: Hawaii

Score: UCLA 35-25

Stanford at USC. Um, Stanford has WON the last three straight up and seven of the last nine. Look for the Cardinal to overpower a USC defensive front that was manhandled last week by Western Michigan.

The Pick: Stanford

Score: Stanford 27-24

Nebraska at Oregon (69)—Take Over

Houston at Arizona (70)—Take Over

Stanford at USC (56)—Take Under
