Don’t you love gambling? Rankman missed the “over” on USC at Arizona last week because, not one, but BOTH teams failed to score in the final minutes on first-and-goal. It almost makes me want to name a city after myself and then enter Gamblers’ Eponymous. Time to buck up, though, lot of season to go. This week’s games: California at Oregon (Friday night), Utah at UCLA, Mississippi State at Kentucky, plus a bonus over-under.[membership level="0"] The rest of this article is available to subscribers only - to become a subscriber click here.[/membership] [membership]
The game: (Friday night) CALIFORNIA giving 3 points vs Oregon
The pick: Oregon, 48-43
The comment: Whaaaaaat? Oregon football as we’ve known it is over, kaput, but I still can’t fathom ducks being three-point dogs to a team that has lost to Oregon State.
The game: UCLA giving 7 at home vs Utah.
The pick: Utah, 26-21
The comment: This just in: Utah is good and UCLA has no clue how to win close games. And there’s still no telling whether quarterback Josh Rosen will be 100% after missing last week’s loss at Washington State with injuries kept secret under Federal Mora Laws. And any foray to the bottom of NCAA rushing statistics will prove that UCLA can’t run the ball. So what if they can’t throw it either?
Mississippi State giving 3 at KENTUCKY
The Pick: MSU, 24-20
Mississippi State played well in a tough, overtime loss at Brigham Young. The hunch here is that the SEC West, which is 7-0 vs. the East, will continue to prove it is the dominant division. Kentucky is coming off a bye week but is still, last we checked, Kentucky.
Bonus pick: The smart guys have 60 as the over-under for Mississippi at LSU, but I expect this to get scoreboard entertaining with tailback Leonard Fournette returning to the LSU lineup. Ole Miss, in Chad Kelly, may have the best quarterback in the SEC.
Last week: 1-3
