It’s too damn bad they didn’t have a prop bet for picking the loser in Wyoming’s two triple-overtime games this year.
I was all over that.
And shame on me for bailing on Michigan State instead of Rutgers in last week’s Biggest Big Ten Loser Bowl.
That said, a 3-2 week was pretty good.
On to Week 12, in which we examine Ohio State-Michigan State, Indiana-Michigan, Northwestern-Minnesota, San Diego State-Wyoming and Oklahoma-West Virginia.[membership level="0"] The rest of this article is available to subscribers only - to become a subscriber click here.[/membership] [membership]
The Game: Ohio State minus-22 at Michigan State
The Pick: Ohio State, 42-14
The Comment: You want motivation? Two of Urban Meyer’s five losses at Ohio State have been delivered by Michigan State. Barring a major upset, Ohio State will be nudged out of the Big Ten title game by Penn State, so it needs all the eye-test help it can get. And Michigan State, which is 1-7 in its last eight games, is having a terrible year. Roll, 'Eyes.
The Game: Indiana plus-23 at Michigan
The Pick: Michigan, 48-17
The Comment: Indiana is good enough on both sides of the ball to keep the score respectable. But `QB or not QB' is not the question. Michigan is feeling feisty after shocking setback at Iowa. And the eye-test also looms large here.
The Game: Northwestern minus-1 at Minnesota
The Pick: Northwestern, 31-28
The Comment: The Wildcats have won four of six, including three Big Ten road games, and were competitive in their losses to Ohio State and Wisconsin. The Gophers have done their best work against struggling teams. And Northwestern has been on a mission since its 1-3 start to get to a quality bowl. . . But take the Over on Gopher ejections for targeting.
The Game: San Diego State minus-10 at Wyoming
The Pick: Wyoming, 38-35
The Comment: Wyoming, which had its five-game winning streak halted in triple-OT loss at UNLV, is unbeaten at home, including a marquee win vs. Boise State. And it’s getting 10 points? In Laramie? Ride ‘em, Cowboys.
The Game: Oklahoma minus-3 at West Virginia
The Pick: Oklahoma, 42-35
The Comment: The Sooners’ defense could be better. But they’re scoring in bunches (44.2 ppg, 9th in the nation), and lurking in the college playoff hunt. The Mountaineers haven’t seen an opponent of this caliber. Oklahoma has.
