One reason I pick for amusement only is that there are picks that I would make over and over again, even after they turn out bad.
So, yeah, I drank the Lovie Smith Kool-Aid last week. I will learn from that. But who knew that Oregon would forget to pack the two-point-conversion chart for its trip to Nebraska? And who knew that Michigan would have a ridiculously bad start, courtesy of not-so-special teams play?
And so, I still need more reps.
That means taking a look at USC-Utah, Stanford-UCLA, Penn State-Michigan, FSU-South Florida and Georgia Southern-Western Michigan.

The Game: USC plus-3 at UTAH on Friday.
The Pick: Utah, 24-20
The Comment: Troubled Times in Tinseltown, Part 1. Trojans plan to fight on with new QB, redshirt freshman Sam Darnold, vs. nasty Utah defense. Not a promising script.
The Game: Stanford minus-3 at UCLA
The Pick: Stanford, 28-20
The Comment: Troubled Times in Tinseltown, Part 2. Stanford, 8-0 vs. UCLA in the last seven years, is poised to win its ninth straight. Not counting Tuscaloosa and Columbus, is there a coach anywhere you'd rather have than David Shaw?
The Game: Penn State plus-18.5 at MICHIGAN
The Pick: Michigan, 45-17
The Comment: The Nittany Lions would have their hands full even if they were healthy. And they're really banged up at linebacker.
The Game: Florida State minus-5 at SOUTH FLORIDA
The Pick: FSU, 38-28
The Comment: After being thrashed at Louisville, Seminoles want to get back on the horse in a big way. Bad timing for the Bulls, who are solid.
The Game: Georgia Southern plus-7 at WESTERN MICHIGAN
The Pick: Western Michigan, 35-24
The Comment: The Broncos, who are 2-0 in Big Ten play after wins at Northwestern and Illinois, will work on their run defense at Waldo Stadium in their final nonconference game.
Last week: 2-3
