A Jersey Guy and The Locksmith Pick Six: Week 8

Another week of treading water (.500) for A Jersey Guy and The Locksmith and we'll take that for the time being, but we have to get into the comfort zone as the college football season moves into its second half.

Michigan State at Michigan (-7.5)

Virginia at Duke O/U 45.5

NC State at Clemson (-17.5)

Georgia Southern at New Mexico State O/U 55

UCF at East Carolina O/U 66.5

Rice at FIU (-23.5)

Auburn (-3.5) at OLE MISS

Virginia at Duke (-7)

Michigan State at Michigan (-7.5)--Michigan has gotten better and better since its opening game loss at Notre Dame. Some Big Ten folks are even speculating that Jim Harbaugh's team might be able to run the table. We would have accepted that conclusion about the Wolverines encounter with Michigan State until last week when Sparty finally showed up and knocked off Penn State. Our theory is that we love good teams getting points at home. We think Michigan State covers and wins outright.

The Score: Michigan State 23, Michigan 17

Virginia at Duke, O/U 45.5

Two teams having good seasons, which means it will be competitive and, we think, high scoring in nature. O/U looks too low, so we're betting the Over.

The Score: Duke 31, Virginia 27

NC State at Clemson (-17.5)

Who would have thought that this might be the Game of the Year in the ACC? Both are unbeaten at the halfway point of the season, which is no big news for Clemson, but a big deal for NC State. We think Clemson will still be unbeaten after Saturday night, but it will not be as easy as the point spread might suggest. Taking NC State barely) getting the points.

The Score: Clemson 41 NC State 24.

Georgia Southern at New Mexico State O/U 55

Not exactly a marquee game, but this one might be a sleeper winner. New Mexico State is having trouble stopping anybody and Georgia Southern is on top of the Sunbelt Conference. Take the over

The Score: Georgia Southern 41, New Mexico State 31

UCF at East Carolina O/U 66.5

UCF is headed towards another unbeaten regular season, but needs style points to impress pollsters and the CFB Playoff Selection committee. ECU is an American Athletic Conference bottom feeder, which means an easy UCF win? Right. Well maybe. We like the O/U total and will take the overt

The Score: UCF 47, East Carolina 27

Rice at FIU(-23.5)

Rice is hapless and FIU feasts on teams like this. We think FIU rolls at home.

The Score: FIU 45, Rice 14

Last week: 3-3

Season to Date: 22-19-1

Auburn over OLE MISS, giving 3 1/2

So there's all this turmoil now surrounding the Tigers after losing two straight, with rumors that coach Gus Malzahn may be in trouble despite having a buyout that is the size of the GNP of Iceland. That's exactly that type of chaos that players tend to rally around. And let's not forget that Auburn still has talent. Ole Miss has done nothing of note the past six games except to show it can score in bunches against bad teams. But the Rebels play almost no defense, which is exactly what Jarrett Stidham & Co. need right now.

Virginia over DUKE, taking 7

Kudos to the Blue Devils for overcoming injuries to key players to forge a 5-1 start, but they come off two straight physical games and now play a chip-on-their-shoulder Virginia team that continues to insist it's not business as usual with the Cavs' program. A solid win over Miami last game was a step toward that. This would be another. Dual threat QB Bryce Perkins and RB Jordan Ellis can make this more of a Virginia-style game -- an effective running game complemented by solid defensive play.
