Another season of college football, which means another season of wagering (for entertainment purposes only). The rule of thumb is that if you go above .500 picking against the spread you are having a good day or a good season.
Last year, A Jersey Guy went 24-19-1 against the spread, which is probably about a B or a B-.
We've added a new twist this season. 3 games vs. the spread, three games predicting the over /under (points scored in the game).
So let's look at Week 1 with our games of chance.
Colorado State plus 6.5 against Colorado (Game is in Denver)
Appalachian State plus 14 at Georgia
Kent State plus 40 at Clemson
Washington at. Rutgers, O/U 52
Boston College at Northern IMllinois, O/U 46
Troy at Boise State, O/U 57
As part of our bonus coverage, we give you the second season of The Locksmith, who was an astounding 10-3-1 last season against the spread.
Maryland plus 17.5 at Texas
Bowling Green at Michigan State, O/U 56

Colorado State vs. Colorado--Colorado State getting points after its impressive opening win over Oregon State looks good to us in this rivalry game in Denver. Take the 6.5 points and look for the upset
The Score: Colorado State 31, Colorado 27
Appalachian State vs. Georgia--App State is a dangerous team, easily the best team in the Sunbelt Conference. Georgia is an SEC team still in the rebuilding mode under Kirby Smart and is a serious contender for the SEC East. The Bulldogs will win, but probably won't cover.
The Score: Georgia 31, App State 20
Clemson vs. Kent State--Clemson will probably not win the national championship again this season. But it would be foolish to discount the Tigers from winning lots of other things, maybe including another ACC title. They will make a statement to their fans in their opener against a weak Kent State team that there is life without Deshaun Watson. Give the 40 points.
The score: Clemson 49, Kent State 7
Washington vs Rutgers O/U--52 Take the over
Boston College vs. Northern Illinois--O/U--46--Take the under
Troy vs. Boise State--O/U--57--Take the over
0-0 Last season's record: 24-19-1
The LockSmith's Picks
Week 1 picks
TEXAS over Maryland, giving 17 1/2
Here's what we know about Tom Herman from his Houston days: He's a fast starter, going 13-1 in his debut season with the Cougars. With more talent now, a promising young quarterback (Shane Buechele) and a roster brimming with athletes eager for redemption, Herman's Texas debut should be a rousing one -- with two "ifs." One is if the Longhorns can avoid the turnover issue that plagued them a year ago. The other is the expected improvement of a defense that was a train wreck last year. Facing a new QB starter in Maryland's Tyrone Pigrome at home should help with the latter.
Bowling Green at Michigan State
It's easy to forget how good Spartans QB Brian Lewerke was before being sidelined with a broken leg after four games. MSU hasn't forgotten, though. Mark Dantonio's team has the scars from a 3-9 season as reminders. As bad as Michigan State was last year, this team still managed to steamroll Rutgers 49-0 late in a lost season (ok, it's Rutgers; but this is just Bowling Green). Falcons allowed 77 points twice during their 3-9 season and the defense doesn't look significantly improved. So there should be points aplenty in this one.
Take the OVER
Last year's record: 10-3-1
