Another 1-2 week. We have become the NFL with parity taking over. Halfway through the season at 9-9 is not cutting it.
But we move on. Nothing jumps out at us, but there are some interesting possibilities. Ohio State at Wisconsin, Stanford at Notre Dame and Ole Miss at Arkansas are the choices.
Plus, in a mid-season special Friday Night Lights package, we'll give you Duke vs. Louisville, Memphis vs. Tulane, Mississippi State vs. BYU and San Diego State vs. Fresno State,
The LOCK-Smith continues to be both lucky and good, squeezing by with a win last week by taking Texas A&M over Tennessee. This week's game is Stanford at Notre Dame.[membership level="0"] The rest of this article is available to subscribers only - to become a subscriber click here.[/membership] [membership]
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
The Game: Duke vs. LOUISVILLE, with the over under at 71.5
The Pick: Take the Under. Louisville 42, Duke 21
The Comment: Louisville is a 35 point favorite and the Cardinals will top that, but Duke will have some trouble scoring against the Ville's defense.
The Game Mississippi State getting 7 vs. BYU
The Pick: BYU 35, Miss State 31
The Comment: SEC teams getting a touchdown against non-conference opponents in a regular season game always is tempting.
The Game: Memphis giving 10.5 vs. TULANE
The Pick: Memphis 31, Tulane 14
The Comment: Memphis is a good team, Tulane is not.
The Game: San Diego State giving 17 vs. FRESNO STATE
The Pick: San Diego State 35, Fresno 17
The Comment: This could be a down to the last second score affair in terms of the Aztecs covering, but we have no faith in a Fresno team that has lost 4 straight.
The Game: ARKANSAS getting 7.5 vs. Ole Miss
The Pick: Arkansas 24-21
The Comment: Ole Miss is playing on the road and Arkansas getting points at home against a team it can beat looks like a good deal.
The Game: NOTRE DAME giving 3 vs. Stanford
The Pick: Notre Dame 31, Stanford 21
The Comment: Stanford is banged up, Notre Dame is ticked off and Stanford's Christian McCaffrey might not play. Irish eyes finally will be smiling.
The Game: WISCONSIN getting 10 vs. Ohio State
The Pick: Ohio State 24, Wisconsin 17
The Comment: Wisconsin has fooled us all season when we went against them. Now we think they will be good enough to slow Ohio State down to remain in the game until the final minutes.
Last Week's Record: 1-2
Season to Date: 9-9
NOTRE DAME over Stanford, giving 3
A game that had playoff implications in August has suddenly become a matter of survival for both. Irish need to bounce back from their hurricane-affected 10-3 loss at N.C. State, and their strong rushing game faces a major test against a Stanford run defense that has remained stout despite two straight losses that have seen the Cardinal yield 86 points. Stanford hasn't faced a true dual threat QB yet either, and Irish signal caller Dehone Kizer rushed for 128 yards in Palo Alto a year ago. With Josh Adams' help, look for Notre Dame's running game to find its footing. The emergence of Equianimeous St. Brown gives Kizer a game-changing receiver too. At 2-4, the Irish are desperate. Back home, they'll conjure up some of that Notre Dame magic against Chris McCaffrey and a struggling Stanford offense.
