A Jersey Guy's Picks: Week 9

OK. The streak above .500 is over because we got a little cocky about Michigan and we tried to match the boys in Vegas about the spread in the Louisville-FSU game. That cost a win and a tie and put us at 2-3-1 for the week. But we remain a solid 28-18-2 for the season as it comes into the November crunch time when conference championship races are decided.

Our buddy The Locksmith was also treading water with a win and a push.

So we continue.

The Picks

A Jersey Guy

Miami giving 20 vs. NORTH CAROLINA--The Canes have been winning their games in the final minutes. Taking care of the hapless Tar Heels will be quicker and easier

Miami 38, North Carolina 10

Louisville giving 3 vs. WAKE FOREST--Louisville isn't that good and Wake isn't that bad. Having said that, we think the Cards should win by more than a field goal.

Louisville 31, Wake Forest 21

Michigan State giving 2.5 vs. NORTHWESTERN--SEE Louisville vs. Wake.

Michigan State 33, Northwestern 20

O/U

Michigan vs. RUTGERS O/U: 44 Over

TCU vs. IOWA STATE O/U: 49 Over

Houston vs. USF O/U: 56 Over

The Locksmith

TCU over IOWA STATE, giving 6 1/2

There's no diminishing what the Cyclones did earlier in the season with their upset at Oklahoma, and they're one of the better stories in all of college football. But this is TCU and QB Kenny Hill and a defense that last week held Kansas -- okay, it's Kansas -- to just 21 yards. Iowa State does look like a better team with Kyle Kempt at QB, but the most recent victories have been against Kansas and Texas Tech, two lightweights. TCU has already won by more than this spread on the road at Arkansas, at Oklahoma State and at Kansas State. So take the quality against the feel-good story. Hill is having a phenomenal year (70.4 percent completion rate) and the Horned Frogs are more balanced than ever with their renewed emphasis on the run.

Season to date: 3-4-1

Rutgers at MICHIGAN

Okay, so it won't be 78-0 the way it was last year. But let's not get fooled by Rutgers' two-game winning streak against the likes of Big Ten bottom feeder Illinois and a Purdue team that couldn't catch the football and still came within a thwarted two-point conversion of forcing OT. Wolverines will be out to re-establish themselves after last week's stinging loss to Penn State, and if Rutgers wants to forget when QB John O'Korn was a true freshman in 2013 and played against the Scarlet Knights while at Houston you can be sure Michigan's fifth-year signalcaller hasn't. He was 24-of-30 for 364 yards and five TD passes in that game. This looks like a 49-10 Wolverines romp.
