Jersey Guy and The Locksmith's Pick 6: Week 5

A winning week for A Jersey Guy (4-2) and a .500 week for The Locksmith.

We'll take it and happily move on to this week's picks. But we're going to go heavy on our O/U choices and take some chances.

THE PICKS

A Jersey Guy

UCLA at Colorado O/U 60--Neither team impresses us and we're going to gamble that bad football will be without a scoring shootout, which means we are taking the under in this Pac-12 Friday Night Lights special.

The Score

UCLA 24, Colorado 21

Syracuse at Clemson O/U 66--Syracuse is unbeaten, which should end here in Death Valley, but we think the Clemson defense is too stout to give up a lot of points. We're taking the Under at 66.

The Score

Clemson 41 Syracuse 17

Virginia Tech at Duke (-5.5)--We know Tech was stunned by Old Dominion last week. We know their defense broke down. We know that starting QB Josh Jackson is out with a foot injury. We know that Duke is unbeaten. But until the Hokies lose two straight, we're not buying Duke as a 5.5 point favorite. Taking the Hokies straight up.

The Score

Virginia Tech 26, Duke 23

Florida State (-7) at Louisville--This one might burn us. Louisville has looked hapless this season and Florida State looked semi-tough in knocking off Northern Illinois this season. This could be a shootout, but we think FSU has more fire power.

The Score

FSU 37, Louisville 24

Ohio State at Penn State O/U 70.5--Battle of two best teams (thus far) in the Big Ten. Both teams have been offensive superstars, putting up almost 50 points a game. But we're going to take a chance that in the first half at least, the defenses will have some stops. 70.5 points is a lot of points. Taking a chance on betting the under.

The Score

Ohio State 35, Penn State 28

Louisiana-Lafayette at Alabama O/U 66.5--Another rollover game for The Tide. Scoreboard goes wild, but we think Bama coach Nick Saban will call off the dogs once the game is settled (first half). Taking the under (shakily)

The Score

Alabama 51, Louisiana-Lafayette 10

Record last week: 4-2

THE LOCKSMITH

Oklahoma State over KANSAS, giving 17

This line probably dropped 10 points after the Cowboys' loss to Texas Tech last week, but it's still an offense ranked 11th nationally overall and capable of big things if Taylor Cornelius is getting protection and able to play his pocket-style game. This is the same team that beat Boise State by 23 -- and how much better is Boise than Kansas? Jayhawks are home here but that doesn't matter because no one comes to their games and they're still not very good despite the feel-good victory over hapless Rutgers. Keep RB Pooka Williams Jr. in check just a little, as Baylor did in a 26-7 victory last week, and you shut down Kansas. This is still a bad Jayhawks team. It's a decent OSU team, capable of some big performances.

TEXAS A&M over Arkansas, giving 21

A two-point loss to Clemson, a solid showing against Alabama and now the Aggies get the SEC's worst team? This is the feel-good bounce back they need right now, especially RB Trayveon Williams. Look for a big day from him and from QB Kellen Mond with an offense ranked seventh nationally overall. Razorbacks have quarterback issues and not much of a running game to shorten the game -- and they will be facing the country's No. 6 rush defense too. Arkansas wasn't competitive with Auburn and has lost to Colorado State and North Texas -- and gets Alabama after this. Should be a fun day for A&M.
