The Picks

The Locksmith

Regardless of how this weekend plays out, it has been a winning -- and profitable -- college football season for The Locksmith.*

So he is adding two bonus picks for conference championship weekend.

Memphis over UCF, taking 3 1/2 in Orlando, Fla.

With two-time AAC Player of the Year McKinzie Milton, UCF needed OT to beat Memphis in last year's league title game and then rallied from a 16-point deficit to pull out a 31-30 victory this regular season. Without him? This is where the Knights' magical run ends. Memphis actually rates a major QB edge now because of Brady White's solid play of late and can pound at the UCF defense with star RB Darrell Henderson. Darriel Mack, with all of 43 pass attempts this season, takes over for Milton.

Texas over Oklahoma, taking 8, in Arlington, Texas

Yes, the Sooners' offense is great -- probably the most explosive in the country. But the defense is an embarrassment, and the Longhorns -- having defeated OU during the regular season -- won't be intimidated in this spot. Since taking over at QB, Sam Ehlinger has been rock-solid (64.4 percent completion percentage, a 23-4 TD-to-interception ratio) and the Longhorns have a productive and balanced running game (a key to keeping QB Kyler Murray and the OU offense) off the field. Can OU be stopped or even slowed? Probably not. But what the offense provides this Sooners defense takes away. Texas has already proven it can both compete and win a shootout with OU.

Ohio State over Northwestern, giving 14 1/2, in Indianapolis

This one is pretty basic: If the Buckeyes played inspired football the way they did against Michigan a week ago, this could get ugly. The Wildcats are scrappy and a great story, but QB Clayton Thorson is mistake-prone and the running game is average. There's a reason this team lost to Akron. Yes, Northwestern rolled through the Big Ten, but the West Division was woefully weak. Buckeyes look as if they have re-gained their focus. If that's the case, count on another big day from Dwayne Haskins.

Georgia over Alabama, taking 13 1/2, in Atlanta

Yes, we know: The Tide hasn't had a game closer than 29 points this year and this may be one of the sport's greatest teams of all time. But Georgia has been waiting for just this chance and QB Jake Fromm isn't a wide-eyed freshman any more. Not predicting an outright upset here, but Georgia's running game and defense should be able to keep the Bulldogs in this long enough to make Alabama at least sweat a little. It's a big number for what is much more of a home game for the Bulldogs than Alabama.

LAST WEEK: 1-1

SEASON TO DATE VS. SPREAD: 17-9

A Jersey Guy

Utah vs. Washington O/U 44.5

Washington won 21-7 in Sept. Same results this time, with a little more scoring. Taking the Under.

The Score

Washington 24, Utah 14

Georgia vs. Alabama O/U 63.5

Bama wins, barely covers, but it is not a scoring blowout. Taking the Under

The Score

Alabama 31, Georgia 14

Pittsburgh vs. Clemson O/U 53

Call us crazy, we think Clemson will struggle with the Panthers, but still win and score some points, which is why we like the Over.

The Score

Clemson 38, Pitt 21

Northwestern vs. Ohio State O/U 60

Could get ugly for Northwestern, especially if Oklahoma has beaten Texas earlier in the day. Taking the Over.

The Score

Ohio State 51, Northwestern 28

Stanford at California O/U 47

Make up game postponed a few weeks ago because of wild fires in the area. Big rivalry, lots of fun, which means points.Taking the Over.

The Score

California 31, Stanford 24

Fresno State vs. Boise State O/U 53

Winner will get New Year's Six bowl invite if UCF loses its game to Memphis. Boise is playing at home and has the edge. Like the Over better.

The Score

Boise State 31, Fresno State 27

Last week's record: 3-3
