Rivals both ranked entering Apple Cup for eighth time

The Washington State and Washington football teams each moved up a slot in the Associated Press national poll over the weekend with the Cougars and Huskies entering the Apple Cup ranked 7th and 16th, respectively.

This marks the eighth time both teams have both been ranked in the top 25 entering their season-ending rivalry game. The poll breakdown:

1972 – Washington 17th, WSU 22nd.

1981 – WSU 14th, Washington 17th.

1992 – Washington 5th, WSU 25th.

1997 – WSU 11th, Washington 17th.

2001 – WSU 9th, Washington 16th.

2016 – Washington 6th, WSU 23rd.

2017 – WSU 14th, Washington 15th.

2018 – WSU 7, Washington 16.
