Evolution of Josh Allen: Rookie QB Makes Statement on Field in Season Finale

The dual threat quarterback never backed down

Josh Allen put an exclamation point to the end of his first NFL season.

The former Wyoming quarterback, a controversial selection of the Buffalo Bills as the No. 3 selection in the NFL draft, became the first Bills quarterback in 17 years to be selected the AFC Offensive Olayer of the Week for his five touchdown effort in the Bills season finale against the Dolphin.

In the 42-17 victory, Allen become the second quarterback in NFL history to throw for three touchdowns and rush for two touchdowns in the same game. David Woodley also accomplished that with the 1980 Miami Dolphins.

The game underscored the evoluition of Allen during the year.

"I think I’ve grown a tremendous amount. I’ve learned about kind of a different side of football, the preparation in which it takes," said Allen of his lessons learned as a rookie. "The game in the NFL is a lot different. It’s extremely tough. No win is given, it’s all earned. That’s something that I can look back on and say that this is kind of how my rookie year went. It wasn’t great, it wasn’t terrible, but I did enjoy it and I love the game of football.
