When it comes to throwing a football long distances, not many people can outdo Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, but Kansas City Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes is willing to give it the old college try.
During this year’s Super Bowl, Mahomes said “we can find out,” when asked who had the better arm.
Allen also seemed to be open to the idea of a long ball competition, responding to Mahomes with a tweet that read: Who is hosting this event?
Bovada, the oddsmaker that offers prop bets, provided a betting line for the hypothetical throw off that hasn’t yet been assembled but has piqued the interest of many with Allen the favorite (-170) in the showdown with the 2018 NFL most valuable player as the underdog (+130).
This week, Mahomes elaborated on the showdown in Rochester, where he accepted the “Sports Personality of the Year” award at the Press Radio Day of Champions dinner.
“No one I’ve known has been able to throw the ball further than me. I’ve never seen Josh in person to see how far he can throw. Maybe not this offseason, but next, we can set something up,” Mahomes said.
Mahomes mentioned the event having a charitable component, but thinks it’ll take an awfully far throw to crown the victor.
“At least 80 yards. I think 85 would be more the right number.” Allen, afterall, unloaded an 80-yard toss during the pro day at Wyoming a year ago.
