ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Wyoming women’s golf team concluded play at the BYU at Entrada Classic with an 11th place finish on Tuesday afternoon at the par-72, 6,082-yard Entrada Course at Snow Canyon.
“We executed much better as a team today to fire our best round of the tournament and move up,” head coach Josey Stender said. “I’m proud of them for continuing to be resilient and learn from mistakes. This team is talented and deep but we have to continue to set high expectations.”
The Cowgirls shot a 52-over 916 54-hole score for the event, saving Pokes saved their best round of the week for last/ They carded an 11-over 299 in their final round Tuesday. Kent State took the team title, finishing as the only team under par with a 3-under 861. Kent State’s Thitapa Pakdeesettak took the individual title as well.
Wyoming was led by senior Megan Knadler and junior Erin Sargent who each recorded top-25 finishes at the tournament.
Knadler finished the week in a tie for 18th at 5-over with a 221 (73-74-74). It marks her fifth top-25 finish of the season and third top-20. Knadler dropped in four birdies on the way to her final-round 74 on Tuesday. Her three-round score was her third lowest of the season as well.
Sargent tacked on her third top-25 finish of the season on Tuesday, taking 25th at 8-over for the week. The Longmont, Colo., native recorded a 4-over 76 in her final round to finish the event with a 224 (76-72-76). The tournament score ties her third lowest of the season.
Each of the three other Cowgirls in the lineup turned in their lowest scores of the weekend in the final round on Tuesday.
Freshman Samantha Hui tied for 58th with a 20-over 236 (76-86-74) on the week. Hui fired a 2-over 74 on Tuesday, going 1-over on both the front and back of the course to finish with the second-lowest single-round score of her career.
Senior Sarah Hankins finished with a 21-over 237 (83-79-75) for the tournament to tie for 60th overall. Caitlyn Skavdahl finished in 69th with a 31-over 247 (81-87-79).
The Cowgirls will be back in action later this month to compete at the NAU Redrocks Invitational. The two-day tournament is set to begin March 23 in Sedona, Ariz.
